Matthew 21 - "Your Will, Your Way, Your Time Lord!"

Matthew 21 - NIV Matthew 21 - NPT Enduring Word Commentary Jesus Comes to Jerusalem as King 21 As they approached Jerusalem and came to Bethphage on the Mount of Olives, Jesus sent two disciples, 2 saying to them, “Go to the village ahead of you, and at once you will find a donkey tied there, with her colt by her. Untie them and bring them to me. 3 If anyone says anything to you, say that the Lord needs them, and he will send them right away.”  4 This took place to fulfill what was spoken through the prophet:  5 “Say to Daughter Zion,  ‘See, your king comes to you,  gentle and riding on a donkey,  and on a colt, the foal of a donkey.’” Matthew's gospel now takes on the final leg of Jesus' journey to the cross. Jesus knew it was coming and had communicated it to the disciples many times. As we will see today, Jesus knew all of the details as well. As such, Jesus sent the disciples to a prearranged place, where there was a donkey with a colt that had never been ri...

Matthew 20 - What Do You Want Jesus To Do For You???

Matthew 20 - NIV Matthew 20 - TPT Enduring Word Commentary 20 “For the kingdom of heaven is like a landowner who went out early in the morning to hire workers for his vineyard. 2 He agreed to pay them a denarius for the day and sent them into his vineyard.  3 “About nine in the morning he went out and saw others standing in the marketplace doing nothing. 4 He told them, ‘You also go and work in my vineyard, and I will pay you whatever is right.’ 5 So they went.  “He went out again about noon and about three in the afternoon and did the same thing. 6 About five in the afternoon he went out and found still others standing around. He asked them, ‘Why have you been standing here all day long doing nothing?’  7 “‘Because no one has hired us,’ they answered.  “He said to them, ‘You also go and work in my vineyard.’ Once again Matthew says, " the kingdom of heaven is like ". As a reminder, God's kingdom is where God is ruling or reigning. When God's kingdom comes on earth a...

Matthew 19 - Jesus Loved Kids ... Of All Ages!

Matthew 19 - NIV matthew 19 - TPT Enduring Word Commentary Divorce 19 When Jesus had finished saying these things, he left Galilee and went into the region of Judea to the other side of the Jordan. 2 Large crowds followed him, and he healed them there.  3 Some Pharisees came to him to test him. They asked, “Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife for any and every reason?”  4 “Haven’t you read,” he replied, “that at the beginning the Creator ‘made them male and female,’[a] 5 and said, ‘For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh’[b]? 6 So they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let no one separate.” Jesus continued to heal the people, as the crowds followed him. The Pharisees continued to be jealous of Jesus and were looking to trip him up in his teaching and discredit him. Today, they ask him if it is lawful for a man to divorce his wife. The key was they said, " F...

Matthew 18 - Is There a Limit on Forgiveness?

Matthew 18 - NIV Matthew 18 - TPT Enduring Word Commentary The Greatest in the Kingdom of Heaven 18 At that time the disciples came to Jesus and asked, “Who, then, is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?” 2 He called a little child to him, and placed the child among them. 3 And he said: “Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. 4 Therefore, whoever takes the lowly position of this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. 5 And whoever welcomes one such child in my name welcomes me. I like the TPT's translation as well,  2Jesus called a little one  to his side and said to them, 3“Learn this well: Unless you dramatically change your way of thinking and become teachable like a little child , you will never be able to enter in. 4Whoever continually humbles himself  to become like this little child is the greatest one in heaven’s kingdom realm We can see where the disciple's heads were at, as they...

Matthew 17 - What is the Connection Between Faith and Healing?

Matthew 17 - NIV Matthew 17 - TPT Enduring Word Commentary The Transfiguration 17 After six days Jesus took with him Peter, James and John the brother of James, and led them up a high mountain by themselves. 2 There he was transfigured before them. His face shone like the sun, and his clothes became as white as the light. 3 Just then there appeared before them Moses and Elijah, talking with Jesus.  4 Peter said to Jesus, “Lord, it is good for us to be here. If you wish, I will put up three shelters—one for you, one for Moses and one for Elijah.”  5 While he was still speaking, a bright cloud covered them, and a voice from the cloud said, “This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased. Listen to him!”  6 When the disciples heard this, they fell facedown to the ground, terrified. 7 But Jesus came and touched them. “Get up,” he said. “Don’t be afraid.” 8 When they looked up, they saw no one except Jesus. Jesus obviously loved all 12 disciples equally, but Peter, J...

Matthew 16 - The Challenges and Rewards of Following Jesus!"

Matthew 16 - NIV Matthew 16 - TPT Enduring Word Commentary The Demand for a Sign 16 The Pharisees and Sadducees came to Jesus and tested him by asking him to show them a sign from heaven. Jesus showed plenty of signs to the public, but the Pharisees and Sadducees were asking him to show them a sign " to test them" . They wanted to use it against him somehow.  2 He replied, “When evening comes, you say, ‘It will be fair weather, for the sky is red,’ 3 and in the morning, ‘Today it will be stormy, for the sky is red and overcast.’ You know how to interpret the appearance of the sky, but you cannot interpret the signs of the times.[a] 4 A wicked and adulterous generation looks for a sign, but none will be given it except the sign of Jonah.” Jesus then left them and went away. Jesus realized what their motives were and realized thst even if they showed him a sign they would not believe. They were smart enough look at nature to predict how the weather that day would be that day, b...

Matthew 15 - We don't go to "church", we go to "worship God".

Matthew 15 - NIV Matthew 15 - TPT Enduring Word Commentary That Which Defiles 15 Then some Pharisees and teachers of the law came to Jesus from Jerusalem and asked, 2 “Why do your disciples break the tradition of the elders? They don’t wash their hands before they eat!” One of the things the Pharisees (the religious leaders) were constantly trying to do was trip Jesus up on minor details of the Law. If they caught him or his disciples disobeying a command, they could accuse him of a being a false teacher. Many of the laws were not even in the original Law of Moses, they were added by the religous leaders as time went on.  3 Jesus replied, “And why do you break the command of God for the sake of your tradition? 4 For God said, ‘Honor your father and mother’[a] and ‘Anyone who curses their father or mother is to be put to death.’[b] 5 But you say that if anyone declares that what might have been used to help their father or mother is ‘devoted to God,’ 6 they are not to ‘honor their f...

Matthew 14 - Do You Want to Walk on Water?

Matthew 14 - NIV Matthew 14 - TPT Enduring Word Commentary John the Baptist Beheaded 14 At that time Herod the tetrarch heard the reports about Jesus, 2 and he said to his attendants, “This is John the Baptist; he has risen from the dead! That is why miraculous powers are at work in him.”  3 Now Herod had arrested John and bound him and put him in prison because of Herodias, his brother Philip’s wife, 4 for John had been saying to him: “It is not lawful for you to have her.” 5 Herod wanted to kill John, but he was afraid of the people, because they considered John a prophet. King Herod was still being haunted by the fact that he had John the Baptist killed. We know John boldly proclaimed "Repent and be baptized ", as he prepared the way for Jesus, his cousin. John it appears also boldly rebuked Herod's sexually immoral relationship with his sister in law. Whenever someone is rebuked for something they know is wrong, they often react in anger to try and hide their sin. Her...

Matthew 13 - Small Things When Given To God Can Yield Huge Results

Matthew 13 - NIV Matthew 11 - TPT Enduring Word Commentary The Parable of the Sower 13 That same day Jesus went out of the house and sat by the lake. 2 Such large crowds gathered around him that he got into a boat and sat in it, while all the people stood on the shore. 3 Then he told them many things in parables, saying: “A farmer went out to sow his seed. 4 As he was scattering the seed, some fell along the path, and the birds came and ate it up. 5 Some fell on rocky places, where it did not have much soil. It sprang up quickly, because the soil was shallow. 6 But when the sun came up, the plants were scorched, and they withered because they had no root. 7 Other seed fell among thorns, which grew up and choked the plants. 8 Still other seed fell on good soil, where it produced a crop—a hundred, sixty or thirty times what was sown. 9 Whoever has ears, let them hear.” Jesus now begins his public ministry, as we see "large crowds" gathered around him. Since there were no audito...
