Verses of the Day
Peace and Hope
5 Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, 2 through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand."

Everyone is looking for peace in the world today. The opposite of peace is anxiety, worry and fear. There are all kinds of prescriptions for how to overcome these three challenges to the human condition. But at the heart of being justified or made right with God by faith is peace. And Paul says it brings "peace with God".

Peace with God is the foundation of any real peace. All other kinds of peace are secondary to peace with our maker. All throughout the Old Testament God's people feared him. And for good reason, because there were times when God displayed His wrath. The only way for Israel to atone for their sins was through the sacrificial system. And even that peace was temporary because it had to happen every year.

But when Jesus comes he offers a different kind of peace. He says, "My peace I give you not as the world does." Jesus' peace comes from reconciling us with the Father. Though we were separated from and enemies with God because of our sin, Jesus brought us back to the Father. And when Jesus sent the Holy Spirit to dwell in our hearts, the Spirit is the presence of God, which is peace.

Do you have peace with God? Peace is a gift from God that He has provided through his grace which He poured out through His Son. As we trust in this gift of grace through faith we can find true peace. A peace which passes all understanding. A peace that will be with us no matter what situation we are in, or what circumstances we face. You can have this peace right now as you trust in Him by faith. It is His gift, but we receive it by faith, trusting in God's promises.
