True Prophets True Believers!
Reflections: Today again we see that not everyone who says they are speaking in the name of the Lord is a true prophet. Deuteronomy 18 tells the Israelites that when they enter into the land of that they will occupy, that the people will be familiar with the way of the occult (which means “hidden”). They will consult spiritists, look to communicate with the dead, and practice witchcraft (has much changed today!). But God tells that them a true prophet will be confirmed when his or her words come true and what they are teaching points to the one true God.
In a similar way, in Luke tells the parable of the sower. In it, seeds are sown in various places with different results. It is only in the good soil where the seed produces fruit many times over. Jesus likens this to those who understand and receive Him and the Word, rather than being on the hardened path which is not receptive to the Good News. The bottom line is that the seed is the Word of God, which Jesus was in the flesh. This is the Word about God’s kingdom coming and how it would advance. To those who had receptive hearts and were willing to receiving the Good News and obey it, they would bear much fruit for the kingdom.
So we see the distinction today between true prophets and true believers. Both bear the fruit of truth in their words and lives. As we follow Jesus who is the truth, our lives will be transformed and God can use us to bring in His kingdom. What kind of soil are you? Can someone observe the fruit of God’s word planted in your heart and the fruit of righteousness through knowing and doing the Word!
Psalm 82:5-8
5 “The ‘gods’ know nothing, they understand nothing.
They walk about in darkness;
all the foundations of the earth are shaken.
6 “I said, ‘You are “gods”;
you are all sons of the Most High.’
7 But you will die like mere mortals;
you will fall like every other ruler.”
8 Rise up, O God, judge the earth,
for all the nations are your inheritance

Occult Practices
9 When you enter the land the Lord your God is giving you, do not learn to imitate the detestable ways of the nations there. 10 Let no one be found among you who sacrifices their son or daughter in the fire, who practices divination or sorcery, interprets omens, engages in witchcraft, 11 or casts spells, or who is a medium or spiritist or who consults the dead. 12 Anyone who does these things is detestable to the Lord; because of these same detestable practices the Lord your God will drive out those nations before you. 13 You must be blameless before the Lord your God.

14 The nations you will dispossess listen to those who practice sorcery or divination. But as for you, the Lord your God has not permitted you to do so. 15 The Lord your God will raise up for you a prophet like me from among you, from your fellow Israelites. You must listen to him. 16 For this is what you asked of the Lord your God at Horeb on the day of the assembly when you said, “Let us not hear the voice of the Lord our God nor see this great fire anymore, or we will die.”17 The Lord said to me: “What they say is good. 18 I will raise up for them a prophet like you from among their fellow Israelites, and I will put my words in his mouth. He will tell them everything I command him. 19 I myself will call to account anyone who does not listen to my words that the prophet speaks in my name. 20 But a prophet who presumes to speak in my name anything I have not commanded, or a prophet who speaks in the name of other gods, is to be put to death.”21 You may say to yourselves, “How can we know when a message has not been spoken by the Lord?” 22 If what a prophet proclaims in the name of the Lord does not take place or come true, that is a message the Lord has not spoken. That prophet has spoken presumptuously, so do not be alarmed.

The Parable of the Sower
8 After this, Jesus traveled about from one town and village to another, proclaiming the good news of the kingdom of God. The Twelve were with him, 2 and also some women who had been cured of evil spirits and diseases: Mary (called Magdalene) from whom seven demons had come out; 3 Joanna the wife of Chuza, the manager of Herod’s household; Susanna; and many others. These women were helping to support them out of their own means. 4 While a large crowd was gathering and people were coming to Jesus from town after town, he told this parable: 5 “A farmer went out to sow his seed. As he was scattering the seed, some fell along the path; it was trampled on, and the birds ate it up. 6 Some fell on rocky ground, and when it came up, the plants withered because they had no moisture. 7 Other seed fell among thorns, which grew up with it and choked the plants. 8 Still other seed fell on good soil. It came up and yielded a crop, a hundred times more than was sown.” When he said this, he called out, “Whoever has ears to hear, let them hear.” 9 His disciples asked him what this parable meant. 10 He said, “The knowledge of the secrets of the kingdom of God has been given to you, but to others I speak in parables, so that, “‘though seeing, they may not see; though hearing, they may not understand.’ 11 “This is the meaning of the parable: The seed is the word of God. 12 Those along the path are the ones who hear, and then the devil comes and takes away the word from their hearts, so that they may not believe and be saved. 13 Those on the rocky ground are the ones who receive the word with joy when they hear it, but they have no root. They believe for a while, but in the time of testing they fall away. 14 The seed that fell among thorns stands for those who hear, but as they go on their way they are choked by life’s worries, riches and pleasures, and they do not mature. 15 But the seed on good soil stands for those with a noble and good heart, who hear the word, retain it, and by persevering produce a crop.
I am the Lord, and there is no other. I form light and create darkness, I make weal and create woe; I the Lord do all these things. Isaiah 45:6-7
We give you thanks, Lord God Almighty, who are and who were, for you have taken your great power and begun to reign. Revelation 11:17
Mighty God, it is in understanding that we serve a God who is almighty and all powerful. Help us to trust you in all of life, for we live under your power and glory every day and in every way. Blessed be your name. Amen.
