A Lamp on a Stand.
A Lamp on a Stand
21 He said to them, “Do you bring in a lamp to put it under a bowl or a bed? Instead, don’t you put it on its stand? 22 For whatever is hidden is meant to be disclosed, and whatever is concealed is meant to be brought out into the open. 23 If anyone has ears to hear, let them hear.” 24 “Consider carefully what you hear,” he continued. “With the measure you use, it will be measured to you—and even more. 25 Whoever has will be given more; whoever does not have, even what they have will be taken from them.”
Reflection: Since Jesus is talking so much about the kingdom coming on earth through the people of God, today he makes it clear what this will look like. It will always be related to the service of others in the world so that people might see the Word and kingdom reflected through the Church in the lives of believers. The word gets disclosed, or to use the analogy of a lamp it shines as we get out to share God's love with others in word and deed.
And there is a promise is all of this. If we are faithful in small things we will be given much more. And likewise the opposite is true. And wouldn't it make sense that God would employ resources where they are most likely to bear fruit and bring more people in His family. And again this is showed in both words and deeds. As the old adage goes, "people don't know how much you know until they know how much you care."
How can you apply this? Where is God calling you to shine with God's love and light coming through you. It might be exactly where he has planted you in this world. There are people around you waiting to see the light of Christ through someone who would be faithful to let the light shine in and through them. So who is one person you can reach out to in the name of Christ to shine Christ's light into their lives?
