Jesus Heals Many - Mark 1:29-33

Jesus Heals Many
29 As soon as they left the synagogue, they went with James and John to the home of Simon and Andrew. 30 Simon’s mother-in-law was in bed with a fever, and they immediately told Jesus about her. 31 So he went to her, took her hand and helped her up. The fever left her and she began to wait on them.

32 That evening after sunset the people brought to Jesus all the sick and demon-possessed. 33 The whole town gathered at the door, 34 and Jesus healed many who had various diseases. He also drove out many demons, but he would not let the demons speak because they knew who he was.

Reflection:
We have already said Mark is the power gospel, where Jesus shows that the kingdom is at hand and come in Him. In the last daily bread, he delivered a demon possessed man. Today he heals Simon and Andrew's mother in law. They may have been married to sisters. She had a fever and those days they could be deadly. And it says they immediately told her about Jesus. Notice the first thing they think of when their mom is ill is Jesus. It makes me wonder when we are sick in body, soul or emotion is the first one we go to Jesus. We might want to think about that next time.

And then that evening after sunset, after word had gotten out, everyone who was sick or demon possessed were brought to Jesus. In fact the whole town was gathered at his door. What a night of ministry that was! Sometimes churches have Sundays or nights devoted to healing. And when we pray for people in Jesus' name some are healed. We see Jesus' power again over the demonic realm, when he doesn't allow them to speak. They knew His authority and obeyed.

Where do you need healing in your life? We all go through painful experiences and at different times in our life we need to come to Jesus for healing. Sometimes we don't get what we ask for right away. We don't always know God's plan for our lives and why certain things happen, but we mustn't allow this to cause us to lose our faith in Jesus to heal. One day we know that complete healing will come when Jesus brings us home. And we also know the spiritual healing and reconciliation Jesus us bought for us on the cross, where we were healed of guilt and shame and made right with God. Go to Jesus today, or bring a friend to Jesus who might need His healing power. Amen.
