12 “I have much more to say to you, more than you can now bear. 13 But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come. 14 He will glorify me because it is from me that he will receive what he will make known to you. 15 All that belongs to the Father is mine. That is why I said the Spirit will receive from me what he will make known to you.”
Today, we live in a world of instant communication. Whether we text, Facetime, post on Facebook, or tweet we can get information out to lots of people quickly.
Today Jesus is preparing his disciples for his departure. He knows they will be sad, but wants to let them know what they can look foward to. And one thing they can look forward to is how He is going to communicate to them. And for this Jesus prepares them to receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
One of the amazing things about this Holy Spirit is the Spirit is going to communicate directly to the disciples. He will guide them into all truth. He will make known to them what Jesus wants them to know. When Jesus was earth he was limited to speaking to one person at a time, or to the twelve disciples; but with the Holy Spirit he could speak to all of them anytime.
Do you realize that just as the disciples received the gift of the Holy Spirit, Jesus has given all those who believe in His name this same Spirit? As the Holy Spirit guided and empowered the first disciples, the Holy Spirit is God's GPS for us as well. With the Holy Spirit we have a direct line of communication with God and positions us where God wants us to be. When we pray, He prays through us. When we read the bible he illuminates its meaning and application. When we share the Gospel, He gives us the words to say.
God wants to speak to you and Jesus wants to guide your life, allow the Holy Spirit to speak to you and guide your life. You may have many friends on Facebook, but make sure to realize you have the ultimate friend you have in the Holy Spirit! He will take you where God wants you to go!
