The Power of Words!

James 3:6-7 The tongue also is a fire, a world of evil among the parts of the body. It corrupts the whole body, sets the whole course of one’s life on fire, and is itself set on fire by hell. All kinds of animals, birds, reptiles and sea creatures are being tamed and have been tamed by mankind, but no human being can tame the tongue.

As James continues to challenge the Jewish Christians spread out all over the known world, today he talks about the power of the tongue.  Though the tongue is a small part of the body, it can do a lot of damage or a lot of good.  He uses the metaphor of the tongue being like a fire.  We know a fire can be useful for a lot of things but can also be so destructive.  It is the same with the tongue.

Paul says to the Ephesians, "Do not let any unwholesome word come out of your mouth but only that which builds people up so that it might benefit those who listen."  When you are talking to someone usually at the end of a conversation you are going to be more built up or torn down.  Words can hurt.  Many of us can remember words spoken to us when we were young that still hurt.  We can also remember a compliment given to us by someone we really respected and it still feels good.

The Proverbs tell us, "A word aptly spoken is like golden apples in settings of silver." Of course the greatest words ever spoken to us were given to us by our Father in heaven when he said, "You are my son/daughter with whom I am well pleased." Remember the words Jesus said to the woman caught in adultery when all the Pharisees were going to stone her death. He looked her in the eye and said, "Who is left to condemn you?" She said, "No one sir!" And Jesus said the words she needed to hear, "Then neither do I condemn you, so go and sin no more."

Today is the last day of 2019.  Take some time to say these words the most important people in your life, "I LOVE YOU!"

NOTE I WILL START THE DAILY BREAD AGAIN IN 2020 STARTING IN THE BOOK OF MATTHEW, AS WE READ THROUGH THE NEW TESTAMENT AGAIN NEXT YEAR! THOUGH WE DID NOT MAKE IT COMPLETELY TO THE END OF THE NEW TESTAMENT I ALWAYS LIKE TO START THE NEW YEAR OUT WITH THE GOSPELS AS WE STUDY JESUS' LIFE. HIS LIFE SHOWED US WHAT GOD'S KINGDOM LOOKS LIKE ON EARTH AS IT IS IN HEAVEN. AND IS ALWAYS WORTH OUR UTMOST ATTENTION AND STUDY!

GOD BLESS AND HAPPY NEW YEAR'S! PASTOR MIKE :)
