All Your Needs Are Supplied!
Reflection: Despite Israel’s affliction with the Babylonian
invasion and subsequent deportation, God’s plan is still in place. God is working all things together for good.
In Isaiah, we God’s plan unfolding which will eventually proclaim that a
Messiah will come to be a light for the Gentiles as well.
Isaiah says,
5 And
now the Lord says—
he who formed me in the womb to be his servant
to bring Jacob back to him
and gather Israel to himself,
for I am honored in the eyes of the Lord
and my God has been my strength—
6 he says:
“It is too small a thing for you to be my servant
to restore the tribes of Jacob
and bring back those of Israel I have kept.
I will also make you a light for the Gentiles,
that my salvation may reach to the ends of the earth.”

the Holy One of Israel, who has chosen you.”

God is
faithful and has chosen Israel His servant.
But as we read again today, they did not listen to God’s commands or
their life would have been a lot easier.
Instead they chose to go their own way, but even in this God uses their
waywardness to point to His glory by allowing things to happen in a way that
reflect back on His sovereignty. This is
what causes the psalmist to say:
“1 I
will sing of the Lord’s great love forever;
with my mouth I will make your faithfulness known
through all generations.
2 I will declare that your love stands firm forever,
that you have established your faithfulness in heaven itself.”

Paul says
something similar when he thanks the Philippian church for their faithfulness
in giving to him in his missionary travels, when not many where lending a hand. But he is thankful not only for himself, but
for the credit they will receive for trusting in God and showing it with their
support of God is doing through Paul.
Paul says it this way, 17 Not
that I desire your gifts; what I desire is that more be credited to your
account.
We see how
sold out Paul is to God’s plan and He knows that if He is doing God’s plan that
as he says in the classic memory verse in 19, “My God will supply for all of your needs according to His glorious
riches in Christ!” Paul knew that in
light of what Jesus had given Him He would always have enough because He was
connected to the giver of life.
What needs do you have
today? How can you take this promise to
the bank today, “My God will meet all your needs in His glorious riches in
Christ!” Take a moment to pray thanking
God for what He has given you in Christ and committing to give liberally of
yourself to His cause because of it!
